Recently, some parts of the Sheikh Zayed road of Dubai were painted red and everyone is wondering why?
Well, it's been painted red to alert the motorists of the new speed limits and not to make the road look beautiful. (Though it looks beautiful 🙂 )The reason behind this was to alert motorists about the change in the speed limit, which is reduced from 120km/h to 100km/h.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai painted the road near the fifth interchange of Shaikh Zayed Road.
But this is not the first time it happened.
Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) began its red road venture this summer by painting “Oud Metha Street” to highlight where maximum speed limits have been reduced to 80km/h from 100km/h.
As RTA said in June“Asphalt colorings would be implemented in phases at locations subject to speed change in other vital roads in Dubai in a gradual timeframe.”
The new hard to miss RED roads will surely help drivers to avoid the penalty for speeding offenses.
Maitha Bin Adai, Chief Executive Officer at the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency stated:
“The process involved coloring all lanes in an eye-catching style to alert road users of the new speed limit.
Asphalt coloring will also be used in phases at locations subject to speed changes on other vital roads in Dubai.
We anticipate that this course of action will contribute to lowering the number of future accidents.
Similar previous actions have contributed to reducing the number of traffic deaths on key streets and highways, which were witnessing the largest number of traffic accidents in the Emirate.”
She further added that the next road will be “the Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road” to be painted red, with the speed limit changing from 120 km/h to 100 km/h.
The authorities hope that this strategy will lead to a decrease in accidents on Dubai roads. We hope so, too.
